US HISTORY (1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th periods) & WORLD STUDIES (3rd period):
Today was Constitution Day, the birthday of our Government. We studied the preamble and discussed it:
“We the people of the United States–in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity–do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
Discussion: “What does it mean to form a more perfect union? Establish Justice? Insure domestic tranquility? Provide for the common defense? Promote the general welfare? Secure the blessings of liberty?”
After our discussion we watched a video (time allowing) regarding religious freedom in our country.
Then we did a quickwrite:
In a paragraph (using complete sentences so I can understand you), please answer the following question: “How can we as citizens help our nation become a more perfect union?”
WORLD STUDIES (8th period):
Our learning target today was to predict and locate what we knew and didn’t know about what we previewed in our textbooks regarding Unit 1. The job was to do the preview activity (see READING JOURNALS on the front page of this website) and record steps 1 & 2 in our reading journals.
